Jeb Bush the names of 78 lawyers for appointment to the state’s 26 JNCs. Bush will pick from a slate of three lawyers for each JNC to fill one vacancy under a new appointment scheme. He will also appoint five other people, two of whom must be attorneys, to each JNC. Three earlier Bar appointees to each JNC will continue to serve. Under the old system, the Bar appointed three members, the governor appointed three and those six choose three additional public members. Under a plan approved by the Bar Board of Governors to meet the requirements of the new law, special screening committees met the week of June 18-22 to review applicants for the JNC posts. The Executive Committee met June 28 to review their recommendations and make the final choices. The JNCs already have several pending vacancies to deal with as well as 27 new judgeships created by the legislature earlier this year. When Bush signed the bill last month giving him control of all the JNC appointments, that law also removed all but the three Bar members of the JNCs, making then unable to do any business. A spokesperson for Bush’s office said the governor anticipates acting on the Bar nominees and his remaining five appointments to each JNC simultaneously and by the end of July. Here’s a list, compiled by the relevant court, of the Bar nominees for each JNC: • Supreme Court: Arturo Alvarez, Miami Lakes; Cynthia A. Everett, Miami; Joseph P. Milton, Jacksonville. • First District Court of Appeal: Jill A. Conti, Melrose; Robert P. Gaines, Pensacola; Robert Spohrer, Jacksonville. • Second DCA: Jack P. Brandon, Lake Wales; Robert L.
