Restoration of Qrendi church to be completed in 20 months

first_img <a href=’;cb={random}’ target=’_blank’><img src=’;cb={random}&amp;n=ab2c8853&amp;ct0={clickurl_enc}’ border=’0′ alt=” /></a> SharePrint DOI – Anthony SultanaDOI – Anthony Sultana The restoration of the Church of the Virgin of Mercy in Qrendi is expected to be complete in around 20 months, it is understood.The church which dates back to the 1650s is currently undergoing works which will restore the interior and exterior features of the building with repointing, replacement of blocks and actions to prevent further water damage, among other repairs.Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici, was onsite inspecting the restoration works.‘These restoration works currently underway by the Restoration Directorate on the Church of the Virgin of Mercy form part of the 71 restoration projects undertaken by the directorate at present stage. It is through such dedication and commitment that we can ensure the strengthening of our local cultural product, which forms an intrinsic part of our national identity,’ Minister Bonnici said.In addition to the external restoration, the interior of the church will also see the replacement of damaged or deteriorated stones and re-painting with as close to the original colour scheme as its original.WhatsApplast_img read more
